Services

Clients come to us with a great deal of depression or hopelessness about their lives or relationships, without the insight as to how they can be helped. We listen to their stories to find the hope, possibilities, and resiliencies that coexist alongside suffering, insecurities, and darkness.

Our clients process traumatic response to divorce, infidelity and other boundary violations and emotional mistreatment, and memories that impede or hinder greatly on health and wellbeing. leading to anxiety, depression or substance abuse or anger of interpersonal difficulties.

Advantages of intensive therapy include treatment efficiency, reduced risk of treatment-related destabilization, reduced risk of life crises disrupting treatment, and rapid results which preclude further suffering or harm from the symptoms – at half of the treatment time.

Gabriel’s journey to healing began with a recovery program for substance addiction. It wasn’t until he delved into EMDR for Healing and Resolution that he realized how strong the connection was between drug use and his past discomfort with sexual activity at an early age. He is First Nations as was adopted into a White family shortly after birth. His longing to know his real mother and understand his identity led him to accept girls and later women in his life who weren’t right for him and unconsciously sought a mother figure through them. Culturally applicable EMDR helped him draw on the Spirit of the Grizzly Bear to give him the courage to accept his past and find his true self.

Rasheed was feeling anxious and had trouble sleeping for years. The last time he was on a business trip he couldn’t sleep at all at the hotel. Because he was going on another trip in two weeks, we prioritized sleep with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). Once he was sleeping better, we did a couple of EMDR sessions to tackle residual anxiety from a trip 6 years ago to Bosnia where he witnessed things that he couldn’t let go of. His anxiety reduced when he was able to reconcile what he saw and his beliefs about his ability to look out for himself.

Talia, at 16 years old, worried about dying. She had ruminating thoughts that she may get cancer and misinterpret normal body sensations. The sense of dread and panic transferred to school, where she would cry during tests even though she would always score in the high 80s. With a combination of Existential Psychotherapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, her worries about her health and death reduced dramatically. Her new sense of purpose for her life resolved panic around tests and about her future.

Candace came in after feeling like couples therapy was going nowhere. “I couldn’t get over the images,” referring to the pictures that appeared in her mind when she was reminded of her partner’s near affair 2 years ago. EMDR for Symptom Relief changed the thoughts she had about herself when imagining him getting close to someone else. She and her partner are now hopeful about their relationship and feel a sense of closeness that they hadn’t experienced in 2 years.

After 18 years of marriage, Jennifer and David felt lost in their relationship. Because of differences in communication styles and time to process thoughts and feelings, they had resorted to discussions about their problems over email, leading to misunderstandings and frustration. Using the Gottman Method, they developed new ways to tackle difficult conversations and show more empathy for each other.

Phillip came in for anxiety and was especially worried about being unemployed. Whenever he had started a new job, he would have so much anxiety the night before that he couldn’t sleep. Instead of calling in sick, he would quit the jobs before starting them. With Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) he learned that he was afraid that the new employer would find out that he has a learning disability and think he is not capable enough. He came to imagine possibilities other than being fired or prevented from moving up.
