INDIGENOUS COUNSELLING

Indigenous Counselling

Christina Clapperton provides culturally safe counselling. With training in social work, indigenous perspectives, and cultural safety, she holds space for your story to unfold. In contrast to a biomedical model of mental health, emotions and thoughts might be conceptualized spiritually with emotional wellness tightly connected to spiritual wellness, energy, and values.

You might qualify for fully subsidized counselling. The first step is to contact us to complete a short application that we will submit on your behalf and book your first appointment.

Not all programs require you to be Indigenous. There are three FNHA programs:

1.       Mental Wellness and Counselling

          – Only available to status First Nations

2.       Indian Residential School Resolution/Day School Health Support Program

3.       Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Health Support Services

Gabriel’s journey to healing began with a recovery program for substance addiction. It wasn’t until he delved into EMDR for Healing and Resolution that he realized how strong the connection was between drug use and his past discomfort with sexual activity at an early age. He is First Nations as was adopted into a White family shortly after birth. His longing to know his real mother and understand his identity led him to accept girls and later women in his life who weren’t right for him and unconsciously sought a mother figure through them. Culturally applicable EMDR helped him draw on the Spirit of the Grizzly Bear to give him the courage to accept his past and find his true self.
